Presteigne Fire Station
Presteigne has a population of 4,620; formerly Radnorshire’s County town it is located in East Radnorshire occupying a prominent location on the Wales-England border. Presteigne town is an area centre, with an historic core, which lies predominately on level ground below the Warden to the West and the Slough to the south. The landscape rises out of the Lugg Valley in the North to the settlement of Norton South.
The Station covers Presteigne town and the surrounding communities of Whitton, New Radnor, Old Radnor, Norton and Walton. This is a Town with a substantial amount of post-war housing, which has grown along the B4355, an important local route between Presteigne and its neighbour Knighton in the North.
The main risk for Presteigne and its surrounding communities are the A and B road networks in the area. Other risks include a comprehensive school and a feed mill.
Priority for 2014-2015
• Reduce the number of secondary fires such as grassland, refuse and derelict buildings
The station has experienced a slight increase in the number of secondary fires recorded during 2013. We will continue to work with Dyfed Powys Police, the local authority and other partners to identify causation factors. Remedial work will be conducted to reduce the number of incidents.
We will also deliver targeted Home Fire Safety Checks, offering home fire safety checks to every property in the area. Additional advice and guidance is available via www.mawwfire.gov.uk
