Abercrave Fire Station
Abercrave, in Powys, is three miles from the town of Ystradgynlais on the slopes of the mountain Cribarth, famous for its ‘Sleeping Giant’ appearance. On the boundary of The Brecon Beacons National Park, this area is well suited for sports enthusiasts as kayaking, go-karting and quad biking are all available locally as are abseiling, canoeing, rock climbing, caving and gorge walking.
Abercrave station is located in the residential area of Abercrave next to the Primary School. The administrative area for Abercrave includes Ystradgynlais, Coelbren, Glyntawe, Gurnos, Lower and Upper Cwmtwrch. The town has a population of 7,956.
The main risks for the Station are the industrial sites based at Ynyscedwyn Industrial Estate, Woodlands Business Park, Caerbont Industrial Estate and Blaen Twyni Bottling Plant. Residential Care Homes are also situated within the area. In addition there is a school, an animal sanctuary and main roads such as the A4067.
Priority for 2014-2015
• Reduction in primary fires including domestic properties.
The station has experienced an increase in Primary Fires in 2013/14 and will work with the command’s business fire safety team and partners to identify those commercial buildings that would benefit from advice, guidance and enforcement by way of Fire Safety Legislation.
